STARTING PRINCIPALS: are the principals in which a news story is based on, which is...

TRUTH AND ACCURACY: truth and accuracy is whether or not the news article has everything spelt correctly, the correct, locations, times, quotes, etc.

BALANCE: makes sure that a story provides both stories, like the victim, and the robber, or the judge, and the witness's, etc.this dosnt mean though, that contrasting sides have to be reported on equally, for example if you interviewed a victim and the robber, and the victim gave details to what happened, but the robber only said "I dont want to talk about it", than you would put in the victims quote.

OBJECTIVITY: this means that no opinions, AT ALL or descriptive words (In some cases) should be included in your news stpry. when i say descriptive words, i mean that you cannot say, " Barak Obama's speech was amazing!" because that would be considered an opinion, but you can include in the story, "Barak Obama's speech was imformative"

FAIRNESS: this aspect includes balance, accuracy, and objectivity. news is considered fair when it includes an accurate account of the events, reports both sides, without any bias, and fairness meaning that it dosnt exclude any facts, or exaggerate them.

ASSIGNMENT #1:i think this article is balanced because there are numrerous quotes and arguments from Mr. de boer and Mike Childs, and Doug Parr.

THOUGHTS ON ASSIGNMENT #2: i think that this is a fair assignment, and i think the end result will be a feature article rather than a hard news story, because they say to write about something that interests YOU, or people like you- this would be feature news. it wouldnt be a hard news story because hard news has to be reported on no matter what you think, because it's important to get it out to the public.

When a news story is based on the four principles of Truth and Accuracy, Balance, Objectivity, and Fairness, readers trust the information they receive from it.

Truth and Accuracy - Writer must get all information from a primary source, and double-check for accuracy. The slightest mix-ups, or even spelling mistakes must be avoided, because they might change the whole story presented in article.

Balance - Reporter must report information from both sides of the story. Failing to do so and providing information from one side of the story could make an article sound biased.

Objectivity - Reporter has to get enough quotes in order to make an article balanced, without including own opinions. Reporter must work on making article as unbiased as possible. In an objective news story, only facts and opinions of OTHERS can be included. Writers must do this in order to let the readers formulate their own informed decisions and opinions on the article.

Fairness - Reporter must include all principles mentioned above in article. A fair article is non-biased and presents an accurate report of a story.

The Starting principles are those on which a story is based on.

Truth and Accuracy - A story must be all facts from reliable and truthful sources. Also, all spelling/ grammar has to be checked to make sure there are no errors in the piece.

Balance - The story has to be understandable to the reader, and must have both sides of the story. You cannot be biased. You can be sued for libel if you take a certain point of view.

Objectivity - You cannot have your own opinion in the piece; only quotes from others.

Fair - This means that the previous principles are all adressed and you aren't writing from a biased perspective.

ASSIGNMENT #1: On PEARL website.

ASSIGNMENT #2: I think this is great because we get to decide on whether it's a hard news story or a feature article. Plus, you get to pick a topic that interests you; just as long as it's appealing to your audience.

Ideas for writing:
- Drinking Age/ Underage Drinking
- Driver's Lisences
- SAT Pressure on students
- Eating Disorders among Teens
- Gay Rights

Truth and Accuracy- this principle means to speak the truth and report it. It also means to check the sources and refer to the documents before printing the article.

Balance- this principle is providing two sides of a n argument to the readers to give them both sides of the story before making a final choice on whos side you were on

Objectively- this principle is to report on what happened and to not ass the writers opinion. This is because the writers job is to help the reader form an opinion.

Fairness- this principle is to present readers and listeners with an accurate account of an event or issue.

1. TRUTH AND ACCURACY- is the most important principals of journalism and they go hand in hand. The journalists are supposed to report the facts in a story and the facts should be accurate and relevant to the story.

2. BALANCE- is when the story has a balance of both sides of the story and quotes from both sides. But this doesn't mean that they quotes have to be balance because one side might end up being stronger, but there should be at least one quote from each side. The story should be well balanced which helps the story become complete. The story should be clear and well rounded.

3. OBJECTIVITY- Reporters should not put their opinion into their story. The reporter needs to make sure that they don't have a bias outlook on their story. The story should have have information from both sides.

4. FAIRNESS- Is the principal of reporting and including all of the other journalistic principals. You also can't leave out any key facts or any over-emphasized facts that might lead the reader to the conclusion.

Truth & Accuracy means that a reporter must have all the facts and no information from second source. It has to be double checked for accuracy, and even the smallest mistakes have to be avoided.

Balance means the story is understandable and clear to the public. Also the reporter must get information from both sides of the story.

Objectivity means that there is enough facts and a good amount of quotes from a diverse amount of people, and opinions are not i the article.

Fair means that the journalists provides truthful, unbiased, and accurate information so the public knows whats going on around them.

Assignment 1: I think the article is pretty balanced because there were many quotes and there was info form both sides of the story.

Assignment 2:This is pretty cool because we get to pick a topic that we are interested in, and whether its hard news or feature.

some ideas:
President elect Barrack Obama
Global Warming[going green]
Economy
School grades and teenagers

Truth and Accuracy: It means that a reporter has to report facts as correctly as possible. They have to confirm their information by checking their sources. Every detail, like names, locations, and quotes, have to be checked for mistakes.

Balance: The story has to have both sides of the issue, but focus more on the side that has extra information.

Objectivity: Reporters opinions can't be included in news story, but they can get quotes from others.

Fairness: When a news story provides accurate information, both sides of the story, and is unbiased.

Assignment 1: I think the article was balanced because there were quotes from different people, like Yvo de Boer and Doug Parr. It would have been unbalanced if the article only focus on the rich countries.

Assignment 2:

Global Warming
Smoking
Animal Rights
Technology
Abortion
Peer Pressure

HEY!!

Truth and Accuracy-What truth and accuracy means is the ability of a news journalists to seek and report the truth. Reporters gather information such as facts and makes sure that they are accurate. If they are not then the are misusing their journalistic responsibility.

Balance- When a news story is said to be balanced, its meaning is that the story it is not biased or one sided. It states either both points of view or no point of view to have equalibrium.

Objectivity- In creative writing we use objectivity to put a little part of our selves on the page. A news reporter must refrain from doing exactly that. They must keep the story opinion free except for when dealing with quotes from other people.

Fairness- Fairness in news involves all the journalistic principles discussed. It is a combonation of all the traits in one piece of work. For news to be "news" fairness is essential.

Truth and Accuracy is delivering all of the facts, with no sources. They must only recieve the information for the article first hand.
Balance means that it was well thought out and processed. It's clear that you had a layout for the article.
Objectivity means it has quotes from sources (as usual), with facts.
Fair means that the information they use is 100% accurate, honest, and approvable to any reader.

My thoughts on Assignment #2:
I think that they should use this as a feature article rather a hard news story, or even a soft news story. They do state to do something that I have intrests in.

-"Going Green"
-Innauguration/election winning.
