What makes a piece of news newsworthy us for it to have these five elements.
important
timely
promient
proximate
unusual
these elements give a story its interesting characteristics

important-this element focuses on international and local affairs that would effect us as the reader. They also count as public interests, like an election of a new president.

timely-tis element deals with recent events. Meaning important events that the media deals with in a timely matter and puts the most important stories first and the least important last. An example would be a newspaper. The most interesting and important would be on a the front and the least important would be inside.

prominet- This element is the popular subjects. meaning the celebrities and names that people know. This element grabs peoples attention and lets them have a connection to the event.

proximate- this element is also interest but depends on what your audience wants. Like a big city dealing with a parade coming up or an upcoming election in a small town.

unusual-this element is used for unique stories, stories like also grabs a readers attention and seem of interest to them.

what make a piece of news newsworthy is it needs to have these, important, promient, proximate, unusual, and timely.
IMPORTANT- means like if it i svaluable to reading or not, and it it affects the reders life. some examples would be like, a terrorist attck, the election, etc.

PROMINENT- means an article that grabs the readers attention like gossip, or celebrity new some examples of magazines are people, star, us, InTouch, etc.

PROXIMATE- this is catering to the readers likes, or what the reader like. for example if you have an audience of children reading articles you would want to write about the best toys rather then stress and work.

UNUSUAL- these are stories that draw in the reader sort of like feature articles- they arent your everyday news articles.such stories would include articles, about a three headed dog, a pregnant man, etc.

TIMELY- This is the order in which news is presented, the most important stories would be first, and the least last. an example would be a newpaper, in the very beginning would be stories about the president, and at the end is the horoscopes, obituaries, etc.

In order for a piece to be newsworthy it must be important, timely, prominent, proximate and unusual.

Important - Something that would affect the reader; public interests.

Timely - Recent events are considered newsworthy. You wouldn't report about a shooting that happened 10 years before the actual event happened!

Prominent - This is the popularity element. A news story about a celebrity, for example, would be prominent. This element usually intrigues the reader.

Proximate - Proximity depends in the area or your audience. Different things appeal to different people that live in different places.

Unusual - Unique stories usually attract readers. Things that aren't ordinary.

In order for a newspiece to be newsworthy, it must be important, timely, prominent, proximate and unusual. However, most newstories do not include these characteristics.

Important news have an effect on a great amount of people, or relate to public interest. The more people a newspiece affects, the more important it becomes.

Timely news is reported shortly after its occurence. Timely also refers to the order in which news are reported: most important to least important. An example of this would be found in the newspaper, since the most important articles are published in the front of the newspaper, while the least important are published in the end.

Prominent news contain certain aspects that attract the readers' attention because it is known to everyone. For example, an article on Britney Spears releasing an album would attract many readers, especially those that are fans of her.

Proximate news all vary on the interests of the audience. For example, the New York Times would publish a proximate article about a parade hosted in New York City because it would impact the readers and their community.

Unusual news are usually the most popular, because they quickly grab the attention of readers. People are always interested in reading about the unique or extraordinary.

To make a news article "newsworthy" you need these five elements: important, timely, prominent, proximate, and unusual. Each one of these elements help to make the story more interesting and original.

IMPORTANT: is the value of the piece, if it's very important and a great deal of people would effect the reader, than it's important.

TIMELY: The article should be recent and up to date with the facts and the actual article topic should have recently taken place.

PROMINENT: This would be how popular the article would be and how many people want to know about it and would find it interesting.

PROXIMATE: this is the readers chose and what you think the reader would enjoy most. This also depends where you are and who's the reader.

UNUSUAL: this is how original and unique the story and topic is. You want your article to stand out and to be different and you want to have a topic that others don't normally choose.

Five elements of importance, timely, promient, proximate and unusualness helps a piece of news become newsworthy.
When a news piece has something important in it it is basically the focal point of the article, that would affect the reader most. Timely i guess would be that the article has to be around this time. but if it was about 2-5yrs ago, then it would have to be drasticaly important for it to have to come back to the present year, and can maybe affect us on that day. Prominent would make to article stand out the most, to be creative with your topic. You could use a popular statement, or even a celebrity's name thats well known. it could definitely lead to a connection with the reader. Proximent could be a wide range of intrestingly physical things. For your article to be unusal to me is the most importan, be sides getting to the important facts. It helps you to be creative, and unique in your own way even when following the rules of journalism.

What makes a piece of news newsworthy? In most cases news stories have to have on or meore of these things...
-Importance
-Timely
-Prominence
-Proximate
-Unusual

A news story is considered important when it has to do with public interest or events that affect us more closely such as a burning house fire or a robbery.

A news story is considered timely when the story occurs recently or "breaking news" or at the second. Also they could be commemerating important events in that days history. ie: 9/11.

A news story is considered prominent is when a general public knows who these certain people are. Prominence is when a person known by the most has something happen. ie. A baseball player on steriods.

A news story is considered to have proximity when news organizations cover people and events depending on what their readers or listeners are most interested in. ie. A bombing in the Gaza Strip.

A news story is considered to be unusual when it doesn't happen everyday. A good example of this is there is a mass murder in a certain place.

These are just a few definitions and ideas about news.

news is news worthy as long as it has this five elements

IMPORTANT- a way of knowing important news is whats important to the public, or what effect the public. (what does the public really need to know and what do they care about)

TIMELY- this is the order of the news. the most important articles first and the least important articles last. inorder from least to greatest

PROMINENT- these are articles the surround popular/famous people. they do not have to be doing something related to their career as long as the public reconizes the name because the person is famous they will be intrested

PROXIMATE- this category focuses more on what the audience wants and is intrested in. all people are different and are intrested in different things. different people like different things

UNUSUAL- things that are unique or unusual can make news that will attract audience. -nadine
